Enrolments Are Open!

We are looking forward to welcoming and enrolling current Year 6 students in readiness for the 2025 school year. With all that our school has to offer, we value you choosing Wairau for the next phase of your child's educational journey. We are incredibly proud of our learners and all that they achieve. We belong to a vibrant and diverse community, who are supportive of all we do. 

Over the last two years our roll has continued to grow, therefore we encourage you to enrol well in advance of the school year, to help with successful class placements and school organisation. 

How to Enrol (In Zone Enrolment)

Enrolling at Wairau is an easy process. For all enrolments  we require: 

• The completed enrolment form, downloaded from this website or collected from the school office

• Proof of address (i.e. a power bill or bank statement) 

• A sighted copy of a passport or birth certificate.  

Scanned copies of these documents can be accepted and should be emailed with the enrolment form to our school secretary: angelak@wairau.school.nz

Updated enrolment Packs will also be available at the start of Term 3. These will be given to Year 6 students from our contributing schools when they visit for their transition days (see dates for these below). 

For children who were not born in New Zealand and do not have a New Zealand passport, we will require one of the following:

• Student’s residence permit or returning residence visa

• Parent’s work permit and student’s permit/visa

• Student’s New Zealand citizenship certificate

Out of Zone Enrolment

Wairau Intermediate has a school zone. This is supported by the Board and is in conjunction with the Education and Training Act 2020, section 72(1). Out of zone enrolment applications for 2025 are also open.  However, owing to pleasing roll growth, we need to run a ballot for the first time this year. 

Out of Zone enrolments will close on 4 September 2024.  The ballot will be drawn on  11 September 2024. If you have any enquiries please contact us.  Within 14 days of being advised of the ballot outcome, parents must confirm whether the offer of a place is accepted or declined.

Out-of-zone priority order

The Board determines the number of places likely to be available in the following year for the enrolment of students who live outside the school zone. Once in-zone enrolment numbers are confirmed, out-of-zone applications are prioritised and drawn by ballot according to the priority list.  

• First Priority (This priority is not applicable as the school does not run a special programme approved by the Secretary for Education)

• Second Priority will be given to applicants who are siblings of current students

• Third Priority will be given to applicants who are siblings of former students

• Fourth Priority will be given to any applicant who is a child of a former student of the school

• Fifth Priority will be given to applicants who are children of Board employees and Board members

• Sixth Priority will be given to all other applicants
