Principals Welcome

Whangaia Ka Tupu Ka Puawai

“that which is nurtured blossoms and grows”

Kia ora, nau mai haere mai, welcome to Wairau Intermediate School.

We are delighted to know that you are interested in our kura.

At Wairau we believe in nurturing our future, our students. Therefore, whether Year 7 or Year 8, we encourage all students to make the most of their time with us.

With all that Wairau has to offer; cultural, sporting, social and academic, our students are motivated to become involved in the life of the school.

It is their opportunity to form new friendships and to enjoy the next phase of their educational journey.

Our vibrant, local community is home to a rich and diverse mix of ethnicities. Our classrooms are global and we take pride in the multi-cultural community we both inhabit and foster.

We actively create an inclusive environment, which inspires students to take risks, to contribute and engage. Wairau’s positive school culture ensures all learners feel a sense of value and belonging.

The size of our school is part of our uniqueness. It is conducive to individual care, while still allowing us to achieve excellent academic outcomes. Our smaller class sizes enable us to provide flexible learning programmes that are tailored to student needs. Students are challenged, yet feel safe and supported. As you scroll through our website, we hope you enjoy this insight into our school.

As our kura continues to flourish and develop, we welcome you and your child to our school and encourage you to form partnerships with us throughout your child’s time at Intermediate. You are very welcome to arrange a visit and explore first hand all that Wairau has to offer.
