INTERNATIONAL ENROLMENTS

Kia ora and welcome to Wairau Intermediate School.   Thank you for considering sending your child to study and learn at our school.

We have students from all over the world choosing to study at our school.  International students all get to experience a multicultural school with many opportunities to participate in a variety of academic, cultural and sporting activities that Wairau Intermediate has to offer.

At Wairau Intermediate we specialise in the care and education of international students. Our programmes and resources are directed towards catering for your unique needs and are proven to ensure your success and wellbeing.

Your time with us will help you to markedly improve your English, learn about the New Zealand way of life and leave with high expectations of your own personal growth and education success.

Pastoral Care of International Students

International students enhance the learning environment of our school and provide a valuable cultural student mix. We accept up to twenty international students at any one time. We are a signatory and have agreed to observe and be bound by the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students; published by the Ministry of Education. Copies of the Code are available on request from the school or from the New Zealand Ministry of Education website at: education.govt.nz

Visa Requirements

Full details of visa and permit requirements, advice on rights to employment in New Zealand while studying and reporting requirements are available through the New Zealand immigration Service and can be viewed on their website at: immigration.govt.nz

Eligibility for Health Services

Most international students are not entitled to publicly funded health services while in New Zealand. If you receive medical treatment during your visit, you may be liable for the full costs of that treatment. Full entitlements to publicly-funded health services are available through the Ministry of Health, and can be viewed on their website at:

International students must have appropriate current medical and health insurance while studying in New Zealand. health.govt.nz

You will find a copy of The Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice 2021 below.  This is the code all schools under The Code of Practice operate by. We also have international student policies which outline our specific procedures. These are available upon request.
