PAST PUPIL SUCCESS

Katie Turner is a past pupil of Wairau Intermediate School who completed her Masters of Architecture at the end of 2015. Entitled “The Fictional Generator”, her thesis interrogated the structural form and descriptive content of New Zealand author, Eleanor Catton’s novel “The Luminaries”, in order to generate four craft buildings and a meeting house that reflect the spatial and architectural qualities of the novel. The five buildings produced are The Meeting House, The Jewellery House, The Pottery House, The Printmaking House and The Glassblowing House.

Upon completion, her thesis was among the top four of the University of Auckland School of Architecture and Planning and out of these four, won the Stephenson & Turner Prize 2015, awarded to the student who delivered the highest standard of innovation in their thesis. Katie’s thesis then won the student category of the Interior Awards 2016 and most recently was awarded Gold in the student spatial category at the Best Awards 2016.  We are very proud of her!
